Rayna Buxton

Exceptional Animator, Rayna Buxton, is the most recent recipient of the Woody Award in the 2021 CalArts Producer’s Show for her film, Fáros. While she has always been a part of the Grasshorse family, she professionally began her journey as an animator in 2015 at the age of fifteen by doing three summers of internships and assisting on projects as a contractor around the studio for storyboarding, design, and 2D animation. Through her early experiences at Grasshorse, Rayna developed her animation and design skills in preparation for CalArts, where she is in her final year for a BFA in Character Animation.

Within the studio, Rayna’s work is notable in many iconic studio productions. Particularly her character designs for Gone West’s lyric video “Slow Down” and the Josh Abbott Band’s music video “Outta Get Drunk”. She has also contributed a lot of work into Fitz and the Tantrum’s music video “Roll Up” and into the production of Iowa’s Department of Public Health show, Lucy’s Workshop.

The inspiration of wildlife is a strong motif in Rayna’s work. Fantastically whimsical otherworldly designs bring the environments and characters she imagines to life in an engaging and unique take on what it’s like to live in a world of magic, “even in the places and things we have grown to consider mundane.” Additionally, she was commissioned to illustrate the poster designs for “The Soft-Boiled Detective” podcast.
